Abstract: In this presentation, I will present to you a brief introduction to the world of knots. We will get acquainted with what knots are and an important tool used to study them, the Jones polynomial. This polynomial is an invariant, that while imperfect, is an effective tool in differentiating many kinds of knots. It is particularly useful in proofs as an algebraic object and was used to prove two of the Tait conjectures. The Tait conjectures are statements about alternating knots and are particularly helpful for a fascination of early knot theorists, knot tabulation.
