Abstract

Applications of Fourier Analysis to Number Theory

I will introduce the basics of Fourier analysis on finite Abelian groups andpresent some of its applications to number theory. In particular, I willdiscuss Dirichlet’s theorem. That is, whenaanddare coprime, there areinfinitely many primes of the forma+nd, wherenis a nonnegativeinteger. Several examples illustrating this theorem will be presented. Thetalk should be accessible to upper-level undergraduates and above.
