Abstract

Is there really anything new to discover about the fundamental structure of the continuum? Yes.

This will be a broadly accessible presentation, based on two technical papers recently published by a colleague and myself. Starting with a simple topological question, we will investigate the continuum and higher dimensional Euclidean spaces, then consider spacetime, and finally note some potential implications for physics and cosmology. We will stretch geometrical intuition, avoiding tedious proofs.
