Abstract

Quantifying Uncertainties in Image Science

Imaging systems play an increasingly important role in modern scientificresearch and clinical medicine. But how do we quantify their performance? If the system is used to make a decision or estimate a parameter, howeffectively can it do so? Can we quantify the uncertainty in theseestimates? In this tutorial-level talk, I’ll introduce the mathematical andstatistical modeling framework oftask-based efficacy theory, and discusshow this theory is applied to understand new types of scientific imagingsystems.
