Abstract

Quantifying Uncertainties in Image Science

Imaging systems play an increasingly important role in modern scientific research and clinical medicine. But how do we quantify their performance? If the system is used to make a decision or estimate a parameter, how effectively can it do so? Can we quantify the uncertainty in these estimates? In this tutorial-level talk, I’ll introduce the mathematical and statistical modeling framework of task-based efficacy theory, and discuss how this theory is applied to understand new types of scientific imaging systems.
